Lesson Info

I am a fairly “old school” type of teacher. There are many places out there online and around town that promote fast learning, immediate skill, video recorded lessons, color coded note learning etc. I believe the best way to learn anything is just sitting down and spending time with it – whether you are a child or an adult! A beginner needs to learn the basics – notes, rhythms, how music looks on the page, where to place your hands etc. Everyone learns at their own rate but I firmly believe if you put the time into practicing you can be playing songs in no time. And actually I always have my students playing real songs on the first day! Some details you might like to know about…

  • Lessons are 30 minutes long one time a week
  • I teach all ages from kindergarten through senior adults.
  • I generally do not teach kids younger than 5 because they don’t have the attention span or ability to process all the details in the same way. Younger kids can definitely learn but it takes 100% parent involvement/participation and they only can do about 10 minutes at a time.
  • I teach basic piano literature that will help you play all styles – classical, church music if you’d like, pop music, traditional tunes, etc.
  • I LOVE teaching adults! All of you who wished you had taken as a child or wished you had practiced I would love to get you back into it!
  • As adults you will need to learn all the basics as a child would – and it will take time! But it definitely is worth it in the long run. I use adult centered books that have less coloring and more songs you’d recognize. I am also open to you as an adult bringing your favorite songs you’d like to learn and allowing lessons to focus on that. As a grown up you should get to choose what you spend your time learning!
  • All students are expected to practice 5 times a week for 30 minutes…or as close as you can get to it. The more practice the faster you will learn.
  • I have done recitals in the past but currently do not have any planned. If enough students would like to participate in one and we are safe enough in this pandemic time I will put one together.

Safety Measures

  • All students and parents are asked to wear masks for their lessons. I will wear one as well.
  • I space out my lessons so students are not coming in one after another. The piano and the door handles will be lysoled between lessons.
  • Video lessons by FaceTime are a possibility during this pandemic time.
  • Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons. For health reasons I ask that only one parent come to the lesson without other siblings if possible. (It is not required to have a parent sit in on lessons – only if you want to and it’s helpful)

Costs/Payment Options

  • Lessons are $30 each. I do not charge for missed lessons but ask that you are fair to my time and give me a heads up if you are not planning to come (of course with the exception of last minute illness). It’s also important that you try to make each week – the more consistency the better you or your child will learn.
  • You can pay by the lesson or pay per month ahead of time and we will mark them off as we go.
  • I accept cash, check, Venmo, and Apple Pay.
