Me with my Grandma – picking out the notes on her old organ

I started taking piano lessons at 9 years old and never looked back! There was just something magical about how all the notes came together, how the keys would be played in any different arrangement to make beautiful melodies, and the dynamics of a song could sweep you away. I learned quickly and practiced a LOT! In middle school I took up the clarinet and joined the school band. I played piano and clarinet through middle and high school, competing in competitions, winning some, making scholarship money for college, even played in the Triangle Philharmonic as well. During the summers I took up other instruments – trumpet, flute…I wanted to be a band director. Throughout college I played both clarinet and piano but found myself pulled toward choral conducting and church music. I have never lost my passion for playing though and take every opportunity I can to just sit down and play!

I have been teaching lessons since high school. I taught though college and then on and off since around the births of my children. I had a large studio for a while in Fort Mill, SC but took a break when we moved to Huntersville. As my children are getting older I am taking on more students again.
